A chat with producer Andy Velasquez
- Can you tell me what it is you are trying to do with this game? What is the main goal?
- We try to make a fun game based on the Star Trek universe. It's easily done to create a game that offers a Star Trek experience, but that is not particularly fun to play. It is also very easy to create a massive online game that looks like Star Trek, but that does not give players Star Trek experience we strive for. We try to create an authentic Star Trek games. We try to create something unique. Not something that is a standard MMOG.
- So how will be the game's content, if you do not make a standard MMOG?
- Well, we have enemies and the mission just as most massive online games, but we have focused on what we call the episodic content. Just as in the series and movies, we try to take players through various environments in the course of each sto credits session.
- Okay, so most contracts will include, for example, a couple of different types of combat in the room and a couple of different types of combat on the ground?
- Yes, and not just combat. You're such a solar system and have been told that there is something strange there. You then fly around and explore and scan and find clues that could lead to a new area. Here you may trade with someone to get on before then can find enemies to fight.
System for unlimited content
- Are all these missions, ready-made, or do you have someone with random parameters and content?
- My example is a ready-made episode, but we have something we call the Genesis system, which will create random content for you. You can use this system when moving between areas in the warp-speed and get an overview of solar systems around.
- So all this content is in their own bodies?
- Yes, most of which are separate bodies, but we also have persistent areas that everyone can move freely in. We are also working on an optional system to make all of authorities to open, so that multiple players can engage in them independently of each other if they so wish.
- Is it open to the battle between the two groups in these open areas and persistent?
- Not at all, but if you travel to the neutral sector can fight other players. To put you in the player-versus-player combat volunteer.
- When it comes to battle in space against fighting on the ground. Will the players to experience as much of each in the game?
- Just now as space is about 60 percent of the contents while the ground gets 40 percent, simply because we thought it fit best with the content we've created.
- I've seen three different types of spacecraft so far, and they seem to follow quite familiar roles - such as pest, "Tank" and healer. Is this the main characters to choose from?
- Yes, you have three basic types of ships, but these can again develop pretty much by the choice of equipment, capabilities and personnel. For example you can develop your research vessel to be a master of control, thus preventing others and make your enemies weaker, or you can develop it to heal and protect your fellow players.

Is it possible to fire a bullet in space?
I was watching the new Star Trek movie, and a thought occurred to me. Why did people switch from bullets to fictional weapons in the future? My question is primarily if it's possible to fire a bullet in outer space. Would the ignition required to propel the bullet be void in space? It seems to me that a single metal bullet into an engine could destroy a space faring vehicle, as the result of a compromised equilibrium in the reaction theoretically needed in order to propel gigantic spacecraft...
Thanks in advance...
a gun would fire in space without as problem, but in space newtons law F=MA becomes more pronounces as there is no friction to overcome.
the recoil of the gun would propel the shooter backwards as well as the bullet forwards. this effect is very small on a full sized person or even on a ship, but if you had a battle where repeated firing was used then there would be a cumulative effect that would move the ship or person who is firing.
imagine i have a bullet Weighing 50g, it fires at 1000 mph, i weigh 100kg (2000 times the mass of the bullet, this is just for easy calculations) so therefore i would travel backwards at 1/2 mph faster for every bullet fired, a machine gun would accelerate me to 20mph relative to my start velocity with only 40 shots fired.
Space Craft UFO Object looks like the Star Trek Enterprise.
Grant McCune obituary
Effects artist who won an Oscar for Star Wars The visual effects artist Grant McCune, who has died of pancreatic cancer aged 67, won an Oscar for giving life to the droid R2-D2 in the first Star Wars movie, now known as Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977). He created the models for many of the film's spacecraft, including the X-wing starfighters, the Millennium Falcon and the TIE ...
